31 Days to Success Day 10: Setting Goals
Many people say they want to work at home. A few will do some Internet searches to find a quick and easy way to work at home. But very few set and commit to a goal of working at home. Working at home is not something that will show up in your email box. Nor will you be able to sign up and start cashing checks. Like anything worth having in life, it takes work to achieve work-at-home success. That doesn’t mean its hard. The actions are quite simple really. The hard part is taking action, working through the disappointment, and waiting for success to arrive. The best way to achieve work-at-home success as quickly as possible is to start with goals. To set your goals:
1) Be specific about what you want. Don’t just say I want to make some extra money, say how much you want to make.
2) Make them measurable. This is related to being specific. How will you know you’ve reached your goal if its not specific? For example, if you say you want to make money from home, and you’ve sell a $10 item at eBay, you’ve actually reached your goal. But most peole don’t want to make $10, they want to make $1,000 a month or $100,000 a year. With a specific goal, you can measure how close you are reaching it and know when its achieved or surpassed.
3) It must be challenging while still being realistic. You must challenge yourself to step out of the comfort zone to achieve your goals. At the same time, don’t make them impossible or you’ll set yourself up for failure and disappointment.
4) Set a date. You need to set a clear and definite deadline for each goal such as, “I will be home full time with the kids by June 2008,” or “I’ll be debt-free by December 2008.” You can set goals with dates along the way such as “I’ll have 5 new clients by the end of January.”
5) Written – There is power in writing your goals. Writing your goals, and reviewing them regularly triggers something in the brain. It’s related to the law of attraction which states that you get in life that which you focus on. By focusing on your goals, your brain pays attention and notices opportunities to help you achieve them. Its your job to then act on the opportunities.
Your assignment today is to set goals for the year. How much do you want to make this year? When do you want to be working at home? Etc.
